Learn to quickly abandon ideas/projects that don’t work

There are two types of hustle (see this post by Jeff Goins). Sometimes you hustle to find out your project will work; sometimes you need to abandon your idea. Discern the difference.

What if, instead of using digital tools to reach millions of people, we used digital tools to reach dozens of people instead? To create an intense small-group experience that’s more likely to make change happen… What if, instead of trying to reach more people, we obsessed about reaching people more?

Quote about influence by Seth Godin

Notice how people are never nostalgic for fears.

“Authors with a choice rarely self-publish… The publisher does all the difficult tasks of bringing your work to market, tasks that your lizard brain would gladly sabotage. If there’s an infrastructure (like a publisher) in place to amplify your insights, that’s great.”

Icarus Deception - Life Purpose & Goals

What is your life purpose?

Do you have the deep-down feeling that you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing?

Do your goals for 2014 match this purpose that you’ve discovered?

Sometimes we just have to stop and consider not only why we’re here, but also this question: Do the tasks I’m working on today support my purpose?

More and more people are asking themselves these questions, especially those of us in our 20s and 30s. And that’s a good thing.

“10 years ago, 20 years ago, the idea that you’re supposed to have a life where you create something of meaning would be fanciful. And now, you almost have no choice.” -Sasha Dichter, Chief Innovation Officer, Acumen Fund

Here’s an inspirational video for you to watch along these lines. This video highlights Seth Godin’s book, The Icarus Deception, and also may help you get motivated today to do work that truly matters. (It’s very well-produced and less than 4 minutes.)

“…what they take is the guts to go into the world, say what you have to say, and own it.” -Seth Godin, author

My Life Purpose and My Art

As I create my art in this world (I consider my writing, including this post, as art), it’s tough at times to just create. And it’s even harder to click “publish.”

“Being an artist isn’t a genetic disposition or a specific talent. It’s an attitude we can all adopt. It’s a hunger to seize new ground, make connections, and work without a map. If you do those things you’re an artist.” -from the book description for The Icarus Deception: How High Will You Fly?

I am working toward goals this year–at this very moment–that match my purpose and help me achieve it.

Do you?

What is your life purpose? What art are you going to create today that enhances your purpose?
