Do I have to?

Ryan Eidson  —  April 27, 2016

So many things in life, once you get that degree you may (or may not) hang up on your wall, are optional.

You don’t have to go to that party on Friday night.

You don’t have to wake up any earlier than required to clock in on time.

You don’t have to take the extra thirty seconds to give a smile and encouraging word to someone who has something to ask you today.

You don’t have to get your oil changed every 3,000 miles. Instead, you just get it changed every six months no matter how much you drove your car.

You don’t have to write down every cash purchase you make this month.

Yet, you get to.

You get to track all your expenses so that you and your spouse know where all your hard-earned money went.

You get to take care of your vehicles (and other possessions) so that they will last longer.

You get to create dynamic relationships and take risks to delight other people.

You get to bounce out of bed early to get a task (or two) done before breakfast and work.

You get to attend that event on Friday so that you’re more connected with what is happening around you.

It might not be required. It might not be on that test next Tuesday (because you left the classroom years ago). Yet, it still may be beneficial.

Do you feel like you’ve lost control of your life?

Is it spinning too fast, and you have a hard time finding your landing gears to get to a destination for rest?

Or is it going to slow, and you’re having a difficult time getting your bearings greased up so that you can get back in your groove?

I won’t reveal the specific details in this blog post. I will say, though, that deep down I was being prepared for the change. It’s as if my intuition, prompted by the Spirit of Christ, was prepping my heart to face the reality I would have to accept on Monday morning. Continue Reading…
