The Three Aspects of Your Life You Can Control Today

Ryan Eidson  —  April 22, 2016

Do you feel like you’ve lost control of your life?

Is it spinning too fast, and you have a hard time finding your landing gears to get to a destination for rest?

Or is it going to slow, and you’re having a difficult time getting your bearings greased up so that you can get back in your groove?

Whichever way your life is going right now, fast or slow, there are three aspects of your life that you can control: your awareness, your attitude and your actions.

Your Awareness

What do you absorb every day? What media do you watch, listen to and read?

You can control your awareness of the world around you. Pay attention to the things that you pay attention to. (Yes, you read that correctly.)

What do you notice about your:

  • environment?
  • friends and family?
  • the atmosphere at work (or school)?
  • media intake?

What you focus on, grows.

Your Attitude

What side of the bed do you wake up on?

It doesn’t matter. Regardless of how much sleep you had, or which way you rolled out of bed, you can choose to have a great day.

It’s a matter of perspective. Do you want to have a good day? Or is today just “another day” in your life?

What do you notice about your:

  • expectations?
  • perspective?
  • attitude at different times of the day?

What you focus on, you will get.

Your Actions

What did you choose to do today?

Yes, what did you choose? Did you choose to put a 12-hour workday over your kids? Did you choose to eat or drink something that you wanted to eliminate from your diet (yet you’ve consumed five times already this week)?

What do you notice about your:

  • habits and routines?
  • choices based on values?
  • actions that you took to say “yes” to (therefore, saying “no” to other things)?

What you focus on, you will choose more of.
